What I Actually Used on Our Trip to China & South Korea (And Why It Mattered)
Share
Travelling through multiple countries with family is exciting — but it’s also where small problems can snowball fast. On our recent trip to China and South Korea, a few simple tools made the difference between smooth travel and unnecessary stress.
Here’s what I actually used on the trip — and why I wouldn’t travel without them again.
Knowing Our Luggage Weight Before the Airport
Airlines are strict about weight limits, especially on international routes. We used our Digital Luggage Scales before leaving and again on the way home.
Outbound wasn’t an issue, but inbound we were right on the 23kg limit. Because we knew the exact weights in advance, we could:
- Shift items between bags
- Avoid surprises at check-in
- Skip last-minute repacking on the airport floor
- Avoid excess luggage charges! 💰
It sounds simple, but that peace of mind is huge when you’re tired and travelling as a family.
One Cable, All Devices — In-Flight Charging Sorted
Flights are long, outlets are limited, and cable clutter is real.
The 5-in-1 USB Cable handled:
- iPhone
- Android tablet
- Headphones
All from one cable, plugged into the USB port on the back of the seat. No digging through bags, no “wrong cable” moments — everything stayed charged with minimal hassle.
Watching In-Flight Entertainment Without Airline Headphones
When the tablet was charging, I switched to the seat-back entertainment system using the AirLink Bluetooth Transmitter.
The real win?
I paired two headphones at once, so if one ran low on battery, I could instantly switch to earbuds without re-pairing or missing anything.
Once you’ve used your own noise-cancelling headphones on a long flight, there’s no going back.
One Passport Holder for the Whole Family
Our Family Passport Wallet was one of the most-used items of the trip.
It comfortably held:
- 4 passports
- 8 boarding passes
- A power bank
- All our customs and travel paperwork
⚠️ Quick tip: Be careful with domestic Chinese flights — power banks often need a CCC rating to be accepted through security. I have a whole blog on this!
Having everything in one place made customs and immigration far less stressful, especially when moving through busy airports with kids
Tracking Luggage (Even When It’s 1,200km Away)
Seeing your luggage listed as “last seen 1,200km away” is never comforting — but the Radar Smart Luggage Tag made a big difference.
Using FindMy, we could:
- See when bags arrived at the airport
- Get reassurance before baggage claim
- Stop guessing whether luggage made the connection
That moment when FindMy updates and shows your bags at the airport? Instant relief.
Hotel Organisation Without Cable Chaos
In the hotel room, the Jetstream Pro Tech Organiser earned its keep.
Instead of cables spread across the desk, everything was:
- Organised
- Easy to access
- Ready to repack quickly the next morning
It’s a small thing, but it makes hotel stays feel calmer and more controlled.
Filling Arrival Cards Without Waking the Kids
Australia still uses paper arrival cards (seriously — hurry up with QR codes).
The Navigator 6-in-1 Pen came in handy:
- Filled out arrival cards easily
- Used the LED torch to find items in the dark
- No need to turn on overhead lights and wake the kids
That alone made it worth packing.
Final Thoughts: Small Tools, Big Difference
None of these items are flashy on their own — but together they:
- Reduced stress
- Saved time
- Made travel smoother at every stage
When you’re moving through airports, flights, customs, and hotels, being organised beats being prepared for emergencies every time.
This trip reinforced one thing for me:
👉 Good travel gear doesn’t get in the way — it quietly makes everything easier.
